Welcome to the New Blog!

Finally-our new blog is live!  We are so excited and hope that it will be fun for our viewers as well.

Over the past several months as our team was rebuilding an entirely new web page system for Puckett’s, our blog has been on hold.  That said, we’ve been very busy-both at the restaurant and with our family.

We have launched the first ever Food Trolley.  After watching the explosion of popularity with food trucks nationwide, we wanted to get in on the fun.  As is our way, we like things old fashioned and genuine.  We looked at many different options to create our version of mobile food service and thought the idea of a trolley would be so cool.  Our management team looked long and hard for just the right trolley.  We found it online in one part of the country and had it remodeled by professionals in northern Indiana.  Then we drove it down and had our wonderful artist, Millie, decorate it Puckett’s style.  We thought it was pretty cool and unique.  When we got some local media to come look at it, we did not realize what a stir our trolley would cause nationally.  AP picked up the story, and we found our Puckett’s trolley-lovingly named “Trolley Parton,” (the name was chosen by facebook fan Jessica Winn- Thanks again, Jessica!)-is the first EVER Food Trolley, nationwide!  That was pretty fun for all of us.

Not too long after that, our Family began making plans for a new location in Columbia, Tennessee.  Those plans are still in the works with the hopes of opening our next Puckett’s in February of 2013.  We are looking forward to adding some vitality to the lovely historic square of Columbia, a great town south of Franklin.  At the same time, we sold our Leiper’s Fork location to the current operator there, and purchased another historic building in Historic Downtown Franklin-the legendary Gray’s Pharmacy.  This is a beloved spot in Franklin that has been abandoned for many years.  We, along with some friends of ours-Mark and Joni Cole-are opening Grays On Main Restaurant in the fall.  More details to come…

Just when I thought Andy may have some time to breathe, we joined in with another great family in Franklin, and began a whole new concept for Puckett’s.  We took an old Boat Locker in downtown Franklin, and turned it into Puckett’s Boat House. It’s still in the comfort food category, but with seafood.  Our hope is that our customers will feel as though they are in their favorite Southern Style Seafood restaurant in Florida, or along many of our great rivers in the “Mojo Triangle,” of Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana.  It’s only been open for a few weeks, but is getting off to a great start.

On a personal note, during this time, we added to our family, as our daughter met and married a handsome young Captain in the US Army.  They were engaged over the holidays and wed in April.  Needless to say, the Marshall family and the entire Puckett’s family is on the move

Giving Thanks

I admit that Thanksgiving Day is one of my absolute favorite days of the year.  When else do we get a chance to pause and give thanks to God for family, friends and loved ones?  Historically, it is a time of remembrance and appreciation for a bountiful harvest.  Our nation’s ancestors added to that tradition of Thanksgiving for safe passage throughout what I’m sure was a treacherous voyage across the ocean.  I am proud this is a holiday that our nation still cherishes every year.

Thanksgiving at the Family Table

Thanksgiving at the Family Table

It’s also rewarding for us at Puckett’s to share our table with our customers’ families as we open just long enough to have a Thanksgiving buffet.  We’ll have turkey and all the trimmings, made from scratch and ready to enjoy.  If our customers would rather eat at home, we can fix that up to order as well.  There is still time to make a call for that if our customers through Monday for sure, and may be possible into Tuesday.  Just call our stores for information. (Franklin’s number is (615)794-5527 and Nashville’s number is (615)770-2772).

We’re all busy these days, so if our guests need a little helping hand to make their Thanksgiving Day meal special without having to cook it all themselves, then it’s a very smart move.  I’m all for anything that can make Thanksgiving calm, pleasant and special for our customers.

After all, as a small family business, we at Puckett’s truly give thanks for our customers every day and especially on Thanksgiving Day.

Nashville celebrates its One Year Birthday

It is hard believe that our Nashville store is already celebrating its first birthday.  I am amazed at how successful it has been, way beyond our expectations.  It wasn’t too long ago that we were still building out the store

Nashville Under Construction
It's hard to believe it's already been a year! We’ve celebrated our first year with massages for our great staff.  Because of them, we’re off to a great start.  We’ve had specials all week and some great singer/songwriters to throw into the celebration too.  Even the local paper gave us some props.  It’s been a great week, and we are off to an amazing start!  Thanks Nashville!

Eat healthy at Puckett’s!

Another tasty salad ready to eat at Puckett's!After turning 50 years old this year, Andy and I decided it’s time to take our health a bit more seriously. We have joined Blue Sky MD and gone on a pretty strict eating and exercise program. That sounds pretty normal and even boring for most. You may think it’s a hard challenge to accomplish such a task as owners of Puckett’s. Well, I’m here to tell you, it’s doable and even enjoyable to eat healthy at Puckett’s.

Because we cook from scratch, it’s easy to ask for substitutions in how our food is prepared.   We mix up our salads, steam our vegetables, and change up our chicken, fish and beef to have a variety of great flavors with healthy seasoning options. Our staff in the kitchen does a terrific job, and they take great pride in making all of our food delicious, even if it is the healthy or light fare.

Some of our favorites are egg white omelets with veggies for breakfast; blackened salmon with a little feta cheese; filet not wrapped in bacon; steamed veggies; mashed sweet potatoes; grilled or blackened chicken; and any of our salads modified to our needs.

The results have been great!  We’ve both dropped pounds and gained energy. Of course, there will be a day when we will work our regular fare into our meals again. But, in the meantime, we are living proof that you can eat healthy and often at Puckett’s.

Also, I want to mention how grateful we are to the staff at Blue Sky MD in Franklin. They are tremendous. We really appreciate their approach in retraining our overall health as we move into this next season of our life.
